Born May 22, 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia (part of Yugoslavia at the time), Novak Djokovic reached his pro-tennis career peak after winning the men's singles title at the 2008 Australian Open, beating defending champion and World no. 1 Roger Federer in the semifinals and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the finals. He has become the first Serbian player to win a Grand Slam singles title.
